8 Motor Bancas Seized in Iloilo Anti-Illegal Fishing Ops

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), in coordination with local Bantay Dagat units, apprehended eight motor bancas during a four-day anti-illegal fishing operation conducted from May 16 to 19, 2026, across various coastal towns in Iloilo province.

Operation Details

Police Colonel Bayani Razalan, IPPO director, stated that the operations were part of the police's continuous efforts to protect marine resources and enforce local fishing ordinances in the province. The IPPO emphasized its strong campaign against illegal fishing to preserve the natural wealth of the seas throughout the province.

Apprehensions by Station

Banate Municipal Police Station (MPS) recorded the highest number of apprehensions with three motor bancas seized. The 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company and Ajuy MPS each apprehended two motor bancas, while San Dionisio MPS recorded one apprehension during the operation.

Violations Identified

Investigation revealed that operators of the seized motor bancas allegedly failed to present permits and other required documents. Some were reportedly caught fishing outside their authorized territories and operating in prohibited areas, including fishing sanctuaries.

Impoundment and Charges

Authorities stated that several confiscated motor bancas are temporarily impounded at respective Bantay Dagat Task Force units and police stations. Charges for violations of local ordinances related to illegal fishing are being prepared.

The IPPO affirmed its commitment to strengthening operations against illegal fishing to help preserve the province’s marine resources and ensure compliance with fisheries and environmental laws.
