ZAMBOANGA. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, through its Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (Kapyanan) program, turned over 60 solar-powered core shelters to families in Lamitan City, Basilan, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Lamitan City government, aims to improve living conditions for vulnerable communities across the region.
Turnover Ceremony Led by Officials
Engineer Nissan-Bai Ukat led the turnover ceremony on behalf of Kapyanan Project Manager Abdullah Cusian. The 60 housing units, collectively named Rose Ville, were distributed across six villages: Lagasan II (20 units), Sengal II (12), Luksumbang (10), Baungos (8), San Miguel (5), and Lebbuh (5). Rose stands for Reaching Out Serving Everyone, a slogan inspired by the late Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay.
Sustainable Features of the Homes
Each core shelter is equipped with solar lighting and eco-friendly components, offering beneficiaries a foundation for long-term sustainable living. Ukat emphasized that the Kapyanan program provides the most vulnerable families in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with sustainable, solar-powered homes and access to clean water to uplift their living standards.
Additional Housing Units
The 60 units are in addition to the 300 core shelters turned over by Kapyanan on June 30, 2025, in Lamitan City. This ongoing effort underscores the government's commitment to addressing housing needs in the region.
Mayor's Statement
Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay said the initiative is a clear indicator of the government's focus on improving the quality of life and ensuring broad-based progress for the city's residents. The project reflects a collaborative effort between the Bangsamoro government and local authorities to promote sustainable development in BARMM.
