Women's Organization in Basilan Receives Livelihood Boost
The 32nd Infantry Battalion (32IB), in collaboration with KAFI Peace and Mindanao Foundation Incorporated, has officially handed over a Cassava Processing Project to a women's organization in Sumisip, Basilan. This significant event took place on Tuesday, November 25, marking a crucial step toward enhancing women empowerment and sustainable economic development in the community.
Partnership for Progress
Lieutenant Colonel Gerwin Maghuyop, commander of the 32IB, confirmed that the project was transferred to the women's organization of Tumahubong village. The turnover represents a major achievement in supporting women-led economic initiatives within the Tumahubong area, according to Maghuyop's statement on Wednesday, November 26.
The implementation of this agricultural project demonstrates the effective partnership between military forces and civil society organizations. KAFI Peace and Mindanao Foundation Incorporated (KPMFI), based in Gingoog City, worked closely with the 32IB to make this initiative possible.
Economic Empowerment Through Agriculture
Annie Montejo, KPMFI area coordinator, explained that the project's primary objective is to strengthen local livelihood capabilities through value-added agricultural processing. This approach enhances economic resilience while creating sustainable income opportunities for women and their families in the Sumisip community.
The cassava processing facility enables local women to transform raw cassava into higher-value products, potentially increasing their household income and contributing to the local economy. This initiative reinforces the ongoing collaboration between the 32IB, civil society partners, and local stakeholders in advancing inclusive community development throughout Sumisip, Basilan.
The project represents a concrete example of how military-civilian partnerships can create meaningful economic opportunities while supporting women's leadership in community development efforts. This model of cooperation continues to show positive results in promoting sustainable livelihoods across the region.
