Cebu City Resumes Waste Disposal in Aloguinsan

Cebu City has resumed sending its waste to the municipality of Aloguinsan after plans to reopen the Binaliw landfill were delayed. This move comes as the city awaits the results of a safety assessment conducted by the Solid Waste Crisis Task Force.

Mayor Confirms Resumption of Hauling

Mayor Nestor Archival confirmed on Monday, June 1, 2026, that garbage hauling to Aloguinsan has resumed while the City Government awaits the technical review results to determine if it is safe to resume waste disposal at the Binaliw landfill in Barangay Binaliw.

Background of the Suspension

The city had stopped hauling waste to Aloguinsan on May 17 after reaching the tonnage limit set by the agreement. This caused waste to accumulate at the South Road Properties (SRP) transfer station.

Growing Concerns at SRP

The decision was made amid increasing concerns over the buildup of garbage at Pond A in the SRP, which is currently being used as a temporary waste transfer station. According to Archival, the task force is expected to submit its report by June 1.
