The Province of Sarangani urgently needs drinking water and additional humanitarian assistance following a strong earthquake that struck the area.
The Cebu Provincial Government swiftly sent another batch of relief aid to the affected areas on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Governor Pamela Baricuatro stated that another response team will go to Sarangani carrying drinking water, ready-to-eat meals, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits after an initial assessment by Cebu responders revealed that residents are still facing great hardship.
"They really need water there, so we are sending more," Baricuatro said in an interview with reporters after the Independence Day flag-raising ceremony at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.
The additional aid was sent after the first Cebu response team, led by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief retired Colonel Dennis Pastor, reported that Sarangani remains one of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake.
Two wing van trucks from the Cebu Provincial Government loaded with relief supplies left on Friday, June 12, heading to Sarangani Province.
The shipment includes 500 family food packs, 500 bottles of mineral water, 500 hygiene kits, 500 sleeping kits, and 432 boxes of ready-to-eat meals (MREs).
In addition to the relief goods, Baricuatro also announced that the Cebu Provincial Government will provide PHP 10 million in cash assistance to General Santos City, which experienced significant and severe damage due to the strong earthquake.
