Davao de Oro Launches Major ₱245-Million Farm-to-Market Road Project in Laak
The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, in a strategic collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Local Government Unit of Laak, has officially kicked off the implementation of a substantial ₱245-million farm-to-market road project in the municipality. This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing rural infrastructure and supporting agricultural communities.
Groundbreaking Ceremony and Key Stakeholders
The project was formally inaugurated through a Groundbreaking Ceremony and Ceremonial Signing held on April 20, 2026. The event was spearheaded by Governor Raul Mabanglo, Department of Agriculture-Davao Regional Director Macario Gonzaga, and Laak Mayor Honeyboy Libuangan, underscoring the strong partnership between provincial, regional, and local authorities.
Funding for this infrastructure endeavor is provided by the DA under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), in conjunction with the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro. This joint effort highlights a commitment to rural development and economic upliftment.
Project Scope and Expected Benefits
The project encompasses the construction of an eight-kilometer road and a 30-meter bridge along the Kilagding–Recenia–Kibaguio Road in Laak. Upon completion, it is anticipated to dramatically improve the transportation of key agricultural products, including coconut, copra, banana, cacao, and rubber.
Farmers from six barangays—Kilagding, Langtud, Concepcion, San Antonio, Bullucan, and Macopa—who depend on these commodities for their livelihoods are set to benefit significantly. Enhanced road connectivity will facilitate better market access, reduce transport costs, and boost economic opportunities for these communities.
Statements from Leaders and Strategic Alignment
Governor Mabanglo expressed profound gratitude for the realization of this long-awaited project, emphasizing the critical role of collaboration among all stakeholders. He stated, “Pasalamat ta kay nadayon na gyud ang proyekto sa atong farm-to-market road. Tinabangay ta, partnership nato ni sa munisipyo, sa probinsya, sa kontraktor, ug sa mga taga-barangay” (We are thankful that this farm-to-market road project is finally pushing through. This is the result of our cooperation and partnership among the municipality, the province, the contractor, and the barangays).
Mayor Libuangan also welcomed the initiative, highlighting its substantial contribution to the municipality’s progress and its positive impact on local farmers. The project aligns with Governor Mabanglo’s “Kalamboan sa Imprastraktura” agenda, which aims to enhance road connectivity, improve market access, and foster economic growth for farming communities across Davao de Oro.
This infrastructure development is poised to not only streamline agricultural logistics but also stimulate broader economic activities, reinforcing the province’s commitment to sustainable rural advancement.
