The Department of Tourism (DOT) has issued an advisory urging the public to postpone non-essential travel to areas near Mayon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 3 due to ongoing volcanic unrest.
Restricted Access and Hazards
According to the agency, entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited due to the threat of hazardous volcanic activity. Ashfall has already been recorded in several parts of Albay, including Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, and Ligao City. Meanwhile, lava effusion, rockfall, volcanic earthquakes, and pyroclastic density currents (uson) continue to be observed.
Safety Recommendations
The DOT also advised travelers to confirm their bookings and schedules and to strictly follow official advisories from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), local government units, and the Tourism Department. The agency emphasized that the safety of tourists and tourism workers remains its top priority as the situation is continuously monitored.
