ERC Suspends Power Disconnection from May to July 2026
ERC Halts Power Disconnection May-July 2026

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered a temporary suspension of power disconnection for residential and non-residential consumers who are unable to pay their electric bills from May to July 2026. The policy aims to ease the impact of high electricity rates caused by tensions in the Middle East affecting energy prices.

Installment Payment Scheme

The ERC will allow an installment payment scheme of up to three months to provide consumers with more flexible payment options. The policy covers consumption not exceeding 200 kilowatt-hours per month, where bills can be divided into three equal installments.

Emergency Measures

According to the ERC, unpaid bills to distribution utilities may be passed on to power generators to alleviate the financial burden on consumers. The agency clarified that this is part of emergency measures to ensure that consumers do not lose power amid rising electricity prices.
