Mandaue Fire: 11 Houses Damaged, P3.6M in Losses

A fire broke out in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City on Thursday, April 30, 2026, affecting at least 11 houses and causing an estimated P3.6 million in property damage. The fire started in Purok Ruby, Sitio Sta. Cruz, and quickly spread to neighboring homes due to the close proximity of structures.

Fire Details and Response

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Mandaue City received the alarm at 9:06 a.m., raised it to a second alarm at 9:17 a.m., and declared the fire under control by 10:13 a.m. Firefighters faced challenges due to the fire's location in an interior area with narrow access roads.

Damage and Displacement

Barangay Captain Marydith Merino reported that 11 families lost their homes. Five houses were completely burned, while six others sustained partial damage, including some units in Deca Homes. The affected families were temporarily relocated to a Department of Health (DOH) facility near Eversley Child Sanitarium and Hospital, as the barangay covered court was deemed too hot and uncomfortable, especially for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Suspected Cause

Initial investigations suggest the fire may have originated from a faulty electrical outlet on the second floor of a house after a power outage. Residents were unaware of the fire initially as they were on the ground floor when it started. The BFP continues to investigate the exact cause.
