The Mandaue City Health Office has intensified its campaign against dengue by urging residents to participate in the daily “4 p.m. cleanup drive” to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in homes and communities.
Health Official Calls for Public Cooperation
Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Phyllis Bidon said the city continues to monitor the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which carries the dengue virus. She emphasized that public cooperation is crucial to prevent a rise in cases.
“Prevention is key because mosquitoes are always present. What we need to do is control and eliminate their breeding sites,” Bidon said.
City Implements 4S Strategy
The city is promoting the “4S” strategy: Search and destroy, Self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Say no to indiscriminate fogging. Schools have also installed treated mosquito curtains, and health facilities continue to operate fever clinics equipped for dengue screening and laboratory tests.
Health officials reminded residents that even small collections of clean, stagnant water can serve as mosquito breeding grounds. Families are encouraged to remain vigilant to protect children and the entire community from the disease.
