Santa Ana Mayor Denounces Alleged Illegal Waste Disposal in Arayat

Mayor Dinan Labung of Santa Ana has issued a strong condemnation regarding reports of illegal garbage dumping in Arayat, Pampanga. The incident is alleged to involve tenants from Barangay Sta. Lucia within his municipality, sparking concerns over environmental compliance and inter-town relations.

Official Statement and Clarification

In a public statement, Mayor Labung emphasized, "As Mayor of Sta. Ana, I strongly condemn any form of illegal dumping of waste." He took the opportunity to clarify that the municipal government of Santa Ana maintains a robust solid waste management system. This includes regular waste collection services and a fully operational Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) designed to process recyclables and reduce landfill use.

Labung pointed out that if the individuals involved in the indiscriminate dumping are indeed tenants from Barangay Sta. Lucia, they have legitimate alternatives. He stated, "They may bring their waste directly to the town’s MRF in accordance with local waste management policies," highlighting the accessibility of proper disposal methods.

Call for Patience and Coordination

The mayor urged residents and the broader public to exercise patience and await the results of an ongoing investigation before forming conclusions. He stressed the importance of due process in addressing the allegations, which could impact community perceptions and legal outcomes.

In a show of solidarity, Mayor Labung expressed full support for Arayat Mayor Jeffrey Luriz's decision to impose penalties on anyone proven to have violated environmental laws. This move underscores a shared commitment to upholding regulations and deterring future violations.

Furthermore, Labung called for enhanced coordination between the two local government units. He emphasized that collaborative efforts are essential to prevent similar incidents and ensure effective waste management across municipal boundaries, fostering a unified approach to environmental stewardship.
