A mother lost two teeth after she defended her son from a neighbor who punched the child on Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2026, in Purok 4, Barangay Basak, Sibonga, Cebu.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The victim was identified as Ely Cuizon Abantera, 41, who sought police assistance after being hit in the mouth by a fist. The suspect, who was quickly arrested by police, was identified as Anthon Dela Cruz Abayon, 22, single.

Investigation Details

According to the investigation by Police Master Sgt. Robert Dialemas of the Sibonga Police Station, the tension began when the suspect, riding a motorcycle, passed by the victim's house. The suspect allegedly tried to run over the victim's minor child while he was playing with a kite.

Not satisfied, the suspect got off his motorcycle and challenged the victim's child to a fistfight. When Abantera heard the commotion, she quickly came out and held her child to prevent him from being hit. Suddenly, the suspect punched the child.

Driven by her desire to protect her son, the mother stepped in, resulting in her being hit by the suspect's fist instead. Due to the force of the blow, Abantera lost two teeth.
