According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, more than 30 individuals have been arrested and charged since the widespread corruption in flood control and other public infrastructure projects across the country was exposed. Dizon stated that the administration understands the public's anger and frustration over the revelations of large-scale corruption, but emphasized that the government must be careful in filing cases against those involved.
In fact, he said, over 30 individuals have been imprisoned and charged since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), which marked the start of a series of investigations. According to Dizon, these are not ordinary individuals but include lawmakers, DPWH officials, district engineers, contractors, and even former Secretary Manny Bonoan, who was appointed by President Marcos.
Dizon noted that case build-up and the series of investigations are not easy, so the administration ensures that the cases filed against those involved in corruption are not easily dismissed. He maintained that those arrested in the scandal are not 'small fish,' citing the couple Curlee and Sara Discaya, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, and former Senator Ramon Revilla, despite criticism from the current administration's detractors.
Dizon said the DPWH remains focused on reviewing all projects tainted by corruption and does not let them be forgotten over time. The secretary promised that more individuals will be arrested and charged due to the exposed corruption, as case build-up and referrals to the Office of the Ombudsman continue.
