Over 30K in Mindanao still without power after quake

Residents in parts of Mindanao are still experiencing power outages five days after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck on June 8, 2026. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), more than 30,000 consumers remain without electricity as of today.

In an interview, DOE Undersecretary Mario Marasigan said they continue to monitor two electric cooperatives that have not yet fully restored power because some areas are in remote parts of their distribution lines. The DOE stated that repair and rehabilitation of power lines are ongoing to quickly restore service to affected residents.

They are also utilizing the so-called “Task Force Kapatid” in General Santos City and Davao del Sur, where various electric cooperatives from other regions are providing assistance. The DOE added that the rehabilitation efforts are not expected to increase power supply but are focused solely on restoring service.

According to the National Electrification Administration, 96% of areas in Mindanao affected by the earthquake now have electricity. This means 24 out of 25 towns in southern Mindanao have had their power supply restored.
