The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has empowered a farmers' group in Zamboanga del Sur with modern equipment to transform their agricultural operations. The agency formally turned over a mobile rice mill valued at P1.2 million to the Kalamasan Boyugan East Poblacion Irrigators Association Incorporated (KABOPOB IA, Inc.).
Boosting Productivity in Kumalarang Valley
The official turnover ceremony took place on Wednesday, December 17. The beneficiary organization is based in the valley of Kumalarang town. According to Rey Mantos, the officer-in-charge of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Agrarian Reform Office, this initiative is a strategic move to enhance the livelihood of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs).
Mantos explained that the provision of the equipment was made possible through the Sustainable and Resilient Agrarian Reform Community (SuRE ARC) program. This DAR-led program aims to convert agrarian reform communities into self-sufficient and resilient economic centers.
A Path to Sustainable Farming
The SuRE ARC framework focuses on integrating modern technology, improving infrastructure, and fostering partnerships to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability. The mobile rice mill is a core component of this strategy for KABOPOB IA, Inc.
During the event, Mantos urged the association's officers and members to maintain the equipment properly. He emphasized that the mill should be used to its full potential to increase productivity, minimize post-harvest losses, and create a steady stream of income for the community.
Formalizing the Partnership for Growth
The turnover activity began with a thorough inspection and test run to guarantee the equipment's operational readiness. The proceedings culminated with the reading of a Sustainability Memorandum of Agreement, a blessing ceremony for the new mill, and the signing of official turnover documents.
This formal process marks the successful transfer of the asset, paving the way for the farmers in Kumalarang to leverage this new resource for sustained growth and improved economic resilience.
