Farm Owner Discovers Theft During Morning Routine
Farm owner John Patrick Pono, 37, reported the theft to Toledo Police Station at approximately 6:00 AM after discovering his prized fighting cocks missing during his morning rounds. The birds, valued at nearly P80,000, had disappeared from their enclosures sometime before dawn.
"I was preparing to feed the roosters when I noticed several of my most valuable fighters were gone," Pono stated in his police report. "These weren't ordinary chickens - they were carefully bred game focks worth thousands of pesos each."
Social Media Tip Leads to Suspect's Capture
The breakthrough in the case came at 8:00 AM the same day when a concerned citizen posted on Facebook about an unidentified man selling fighting cocks in Barangay Ibo, Toledo City. According to the social media post, the individual was carrying a sack containing several roosters he was attempting to sell.
Toledo police immediately responded to the tip and dispatched officers to the location. However, upon their arrival, the suspect had already fled the area, prompting authorities to launch a hot pursuit operation.
Police successfully apprehended the suspect, identified only as "Ford," 27, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. During the arrest, authorities recovered one fighting cock and the sack used to transport the stolen birds.
The suspect is currently detained at Toledo Police Station and will face formal charges for theft. The recovered game fowl has been returned to its rightful owner, while police continue their investigation to locate the remaining missing birds.
