Tragic Bus Collision Claims Life of Teen Cyclist
A 17-year-old student lost his life in a devastating traffic accident involving a bus in Carcar City on November 9, 2025. The victim, identified as Vience James Tenis, 17, from Cogon, Poblacion 1, Carcar, was declared dead-on-arrival at Carcar Medical Facility following the collision that occurred at approximately 3:30 PM along National Road in Barangay Poblacion 1.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to Police Staff Sgt. Mar Jone Aledon of the Carcar Police Station, the teenager was riding his mountain bike when he failed to check his surroundings and suddenly crossed to the opposite lane. This tragic maneuver placed him directly in the path of an oncoming Ceres bus traveling from Cebu City toward Barili City.
The impact was so severe that the victim was thrown several meters from the point of collision, while his bicycle became trapped beneath the bus. The driver of the bus, Kristian Dean Padin, 41, a married man, was immediately taken into custody and is currently detained at the Carcar Police Station pending investigation.
Separate Road Tragedy in Talisay City
In an unrelated but equally tragic incident that occurred just days earlier, another young life was cut short in Talisay City. On November 7, 2025, at approximately 11:05 PM, 18-year-old Zyrus Tines from Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, died when his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a parked truck in Barangay Lawaan.
The victim, who worked as a WiFi installer and was traveling toward Barangay Linao, failed to notice the stationary truck that had been parked due to mechanical problems. The truck driver, Charleston Jo, 40, also a married resident of Barangay Biasong, Talisay City, was taken into police custody following the incident.
In a heartbreaking development, the parents of Zyrus Tines have chosen not to pursue legal action against the truck driver, acknowledging that the tragedy was an accident rather than an intentional act.
Authorities Issue Road Safety Reminders
Following these back-to-back road fatalities, Joy Tumulak, chief of the City of Talisay - Traffic Operations Development Authority (CT-TODA), has issued an urgent appeal to all drivers, particularly those operating commercial vehicles. Tumulak emphasized that when vehicles experience mechanical failure, drivers must ensure they deploy early warning devices to alert approaching motorists.
These consecutive tragedies have highlighted the critical importance of road safety awareness among all road users, from professional drivers to cyclists and motorcycle riders. Authorities continue to investigate both incidents while reminding the public that vigilance and proper safety precautions can prevent such devastating losses of life.
