Governor Pamela Baricuatro of Cebu has issued a directive for provincial and district hospitals to remain on heightened alert as haze continues to impact various areas across the province. This precautionary measure aims to ensure healthcare facilities are fully prepared to address any potential health issues arising from the environmental conditions.

Ainjeliz "AJ" dela Torre-Orong, head of the Cebu Provincial Information Office, confirmed in a media interview on Monday, April 20, 2026, that hospital chiefs and medical staff have already been notified to stay vigilant and ready for any haze-related health concerns. Orong emphasized that this directive is purely precautionary and is not meant to cause public alarm, but rather to proactively safeguard community health.
To bolster response efforts, the Emergency Operations Center under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has been activated for 24/7 operations. This center is tasked with continuously monitoring the haze situation and coordinating any necessary emergency responses.
Collaboration with National Agencies
Governor Baricuatro is also seeking further recommendations from key national agencies, including the Office of Civil Defense and the Department of Health, before issuing a formal memorandum. This step ensures that provincial actions are aligned with broader health and safety protocols.
Additionally, Orong noted that Baricuatro has requested regular updates from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to stay informed on environmental developments. As of Monday, no haze-related health cases have been reported in Cebu, underscoring the preventive nature of these measures.
