The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Thursday that a large portion of Luzon will continue to experience rainfall due to the prevailing southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.
Areas Affected by the Southwest Monsoon
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA stated that the provinces of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga will have occasional rains. Scattered rains and thunderstorms are forecast over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the remaining parts of the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon.
Potential Hazards
These areas are likely to experience moderate to heavy rains that could lead to flash floods or landslides, PAGASA warned. The rest of the country will see isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Wind and Sea Conditions
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail throughout Northern and Central Luzon, as well as the western section of Southern Luzon. In other parts of the country, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate sea conditions.
Low-Pressure Area Update
PAGASA is also monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. As of 3 a.m., the LPA was situated 590 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union. The weather bureau noted that the LPA has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
