The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring rain showers across a large portion of the country, particularly Luzon and Western Visayas.
Areas Affected by Occasional Rains
According to PAGASA, occasional rains are expected in the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. These areas will experience persistent wet weather due to the monsoon's influence.
Scattered Rains and Thunderstorms
The rest of Luzon, including the National Capital Region, and Western Visayas will see scattered rains and thunderstorms. Residents in these regions should be prepared for sudden downpours and possible lightning strikes.
PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could lead to flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous locations. Local disaster risk reduction offices have been advised to remain on alert.
Weather Conditions in Other Parts of the Country
Meanwhile, the rest of the Philippines will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. These brief but intense rains are typical during the onset of the rainy season.
In extreme Northern Luzon, moderate winds and moderate seas are expected, which may affect small seacraft operations. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate, with slight to moderate seas, making conditions generally favorable for maritime activities.
PAGASA continues to monitor the weather situation and advises the public to stay updated through official channels. The southwest monsoon is expected to persist in the coming days, bringing more rain to western sections of the country.
