The state weather bureau announced that the trough of Tropical Storm Mekkhala is already affecting the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
Storm Position and Movement
According to the agency's report, the storm's center is located 1,480 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon and is currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Once it enters PAR, it will be given the local name "Francisco," becoming the sixth tropical cyclone in the Philippines for 2026.
Wind Strength and Speed
The storm carries maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 105 kilometers per hour. It is moving westward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. Authorities are continuously monitoring its possible approach to the country in the coming days.
Advisory for Residents
Residents in eastern Visayas and Mindanao are advised to stay alert for possible heavy rains and flooding caused by the trough of the storm.
