The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI) has launched an online platform that showcases scientific studies and the rich biodiversity of Pag-asa Island in Kalayaan, Palawan, located in the West Philippine Sea. Titled “Pag-asa Island: A Hidden Pearl of Biodiversity,” the website features research results, photographs, and experiences of marine biologists from their expeditions to the island. The platform aims to make it easier for the public to understand the importance of Pag-asa Island and its surrounding waters. It also includes studies on corals, seabirds, various fish species, and other marine life. The project is supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives through the Embassy of Canada. According to UP MSI, they also plan to build a “research museum” to showcase findings from Pag-asa Island.
