Bacolod City Launches Community Biodiesel Project to Promote Sustainable Energy
House Deputy Speaker and Bacolod City Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is set to launch the Biodiesel Project at the Community Center in Dallas Street, Las Palmas Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, on Monday, March 30, 2026. This initiative represents a significant advancement in promoting sustainable energy and fostering community-driven environmental solutions.
Transforming Waste into Valuable Resources
Benitez emphasized that this project focuses on converting waste into a beneficial resource for the local population. "By supporting our fisherfolk with sustainable fuel alternatives, we are not only protecting the environment but also strengthening livelihoods," he stated. The theme "Collect, Recycle and Renew" underscores the project's goal of turning used cooking oil and other renewable materials into biodiesel, an eco-friendly substitute for conventional fossil fuels.
Benefits for Local Fisherfolk and Coastal Communities
As part of the program, biofuel products will be distributed to local fisherfolk, offering them a more affordable and sustainable fuel option to support their daily activities. Benitez highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce operational costs while encouraging the adoption of cleaner energy in coastal areas. "This is about transforming waste into a resource that directly benefits the people," he added, noting the dual impact on both economic and environmental fronts.
Collaborative Efforts and Environmental Impact
The Biodiesel Project is the result of collaboration among various partners and stakeholders, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusive development. It encourages households, businesses, and communities to actively participate in collecting and recycling used oil, thereby converting everyday waste into a valuable energy source.
Expected outcomes of the project include:
- Reduced pollution levels in Bacolod City
- Improved waste management practices
- Promotion of renewable energy initiatives
Benitez urged residents and stakeholders to attend the launch event and support the initiative's vision of building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Bacolod City.
