Aboitiz Foundation Gives P8.5M Home Recovery Aid in Liloan

Residents of Barangay Cotcot in Liloan, Cebu, have begun the crucial process of rebuilding their homes after receiving vital home recovery assistance from the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. The aid, distributed on Thursday, December 18, 2025, comes in the wake of the destruction caused by Typhoon Tino.

Substantial Aid Package for Long-Term Recovery

A total of 285 affected families are beneficiaries of this recovery initiative. The comprehensive assistance package is valued at P8.5 million and is specifically designed to facilitate the reconstruction of damaged houses. It includes essential construction materials, cement, and a cash-for-labor component to support the rebuilding efforts directly.

Each beneficiary family is set to receive P30,000 in total assistance. The breakdown is structured to cover all major rebuilding costs: P12,000 for construction materials, another P12,000 for cement, and P6,000 for labor. Following the distribution of order papers in envelopes to the recipients, the construction materials and cement are scheduled for delivery after the Christmas holidays.

Community and Corporate Commitment to Rebuild

Local government and corporate leaders were present to show solidarity with the community. Liloan City Mayor Aljew Frasco and Anton Perdices, Chief Operating Officer for Distribution Utilities at Aboitiz Power, both expressed a firm commitment to supporting Liloan's recovery, assuring residents they are not alone in this challenging endeavor.

Fred Dalumpines, Impact Lead for Climate Action at the Aboitiz Foundation Inc., emphasized that this assistance moves beyond immediate relief. "After the relief operations, we saw that there is a need for recovery efforts and rebuilding," Dalumpines stated, highlighting the program's focus on sustainable, long-term recovery for the typhoon-affected families.

Hope and Gratitude from Beneficiaries

The distribution has ignited hope among the residents. Beneficiary Remidios Amatiad shared her relief, stating she is now able to purchase plywood and start reconstructing her house, which was washed out during the floods. Lito Tabay expressed profound gratitude, noting that his family can finally work towards having proper shelter again after losing their home.

Another recipient, Gino Arabis, said the assistance allows him to begin rebuilding with fewer financial worries. This Home Recovery Assistance program was first piloted in San Remigio, Cebu, on November 27, 2025, for families affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck on September 30.

The initiative in Barangay Cotcot marks a significant step from emergency response to tangible recovery, empowering residents to reconstruct their lives and homes with dignity and support.
