The Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry Division has intensified its humanitarian mission in Cebu following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino, with military personnel working tirelessly from November 13 to 18, 2025 to assist affected communities across the province.
Military-Led Disaster Response Operations
Joint Task Group Cebu, in coordination with the 53rd Engineer Brigade, executed comprehensive clearing operations, search and retrieval missions, and relief support in several severely impacted areas. The operations demonstrated the Army's immediate response capability, with units positioned to begin work immediately after the typhoon passed.
Major General Michael Samson, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, expressed pride in his troops' dedication. "I commend our troops for their tireless efforts in the face of adversity," Samson stated. "Their courage and compassion reflect the true spirit of service, placing the welfare of the people above all else."
Ground Operations Across Multiple Locations
The division's Disaster Response Teams focused on several critical areas during the six-day operation period. Clearing operations continued in Barangay Cotcot in Liloan, Barangay Poblacion in Talisay City, and Barangay Buluang in Compostela.
In one particularly sensitive mission, teams assisted in search and retrieval operations in Barangay Cabadiangan in Compostela, where they transported a cadaver as part of their emergency response duties. The military also provided crucial support in Talisay City, helping unload relief goods to accelerate the distribution of essential supplies to households in need.
Sustained Commitment to Recovery
The sustained presence of the 3rd Infantry Division and 53rd Engineer Brigade forms part of their continuing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) mission. This ensures that affected communities receive comprehensive support in cleanup, recovery, and assistance efforts until normalcy is completely restored.
Major General Samson reassured Cebu residents: "To the people of Cebu, rest assured: the Spearhead Troopers will remain by your side until full recovery is achieved." The general emphasized the Army's commitment to being present, dependable, and ready to act when communities need assistance most.
The coordinated efforts between military personnel and civilian volunteers, such as those witnessed during clearing operations at Sarihville Subdivision in Purok Talong, Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, highlight the community-based approach to disaster recovery that has characterized the response to Typhoon Tino's aftermath.
