Tragic Discovery in Cordova Waters
A 45-year-old construction worker was found dead floating in the waters of Barangay Buagsong, Cordova, Cebu on November 6, 2025, following the devastating floods caused by Typhoon Tino.
The victim was identified as Roldan Aguanta Navarro, a resident of Sityo Paglaum, Barangay Dumlog in Talisay City. His sister, Gemma Navarro Gequillo, 48, personally visited the Cordova Police Station to confirm that the recovered body was indeed her missing brother.
Disappearance During Typhoon Tino
According to Gemma's statement to authorities, Roldan went missing after the powerful flooding that swept through Talisay City during the height of Typhoon Tino. Neighbors informed her that Roldan did not evacuate to safer ground along with other residents when the flooding began.
One neighbor provided crucial information about Roldan's final moments. The witness reported that when the water levels rose in Mananga River, Roldan was still swimming and was subsequently carried away by the strong current of the raging floodwaters.
Aftermath and Investigation
The tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by residents during severe weather events in the Philippines. Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Navarro's death while the family mourns their loss.
The body was discovered three days after Typhoon Tino caused widespread flooding across Cebu province, particularly affecting low-lying areas near rivers and coastal communities. Emergency responders recovered the remains and transported them for proper identification and forensic examination.
