Cebu Sports Events Halted Following Typhoon Devastation
The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) has announced a major postponement of all its scheduled games from November 10 to 16, 2025. This decision comes as a direct response to the severe damage inflicted by Typhoon Tino, which struck Cebu Province on November 4, 2025.
Safety and Recovery Take Priority
Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. officially communicated the postponement through a memorandum issued on November 9, 2025. The memo was distributed to all member schools of the athletic foundation.
The memorandum explicitly stated that Typhoon Tino has significantly impacted numerous Cesafi-member schools and their student-athletes. The organization acknowledged the considerable difficulties and challenges the community is currently facing in the wake of the typhoon, which tragically claimed hundreds of lives.
Double Threat with Super Typhoon Uwan
Compounding the recovery efforts from one weather system, Cebu is also bracing for another. At the time of the announcement, the province was already under Signal Number 1 due to the approaching Super Typhoon Uwan.
The memorandum highlighted the significant threat that Typhoon Uwan poses to the safety and security of all stakeholders, citing its wide coverage. The postponement aims to provide everyone with crucial time to recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Tino and to adequately prepare for the potential impact of the new super typhoon.
All games originally set for the mentioned dates are officially canceled and will be rescheduled for a later time. The Cesafi has confirmed that athletic competitions are now set to resume on Monday, November 17, 2025, assuming conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
