The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (BDRRMO) in Labogon, Mandaue City, successfully conducted a comprehensive basic ropemanship training, serving as a refresher course, on Saturday, February 21, 2026. This initiative aimed to bolster the capabilities of local responders in handling emergency situations with greater efficiency and safety.
Training Structure and Venue Details
The event was meticulously organized, with the lecture component taking place at the barangay hall in Labogon. Subsequently, participants applied their newly acquired knowledge through practical exercises held within the gymnasium of Labogon National High School (LNHS). This dual-venue approach ensured a balanced mix of theoretical instruction and hands-on experience.
Participant Demographics and Objectives
The training attracted a diverse group of at least 40 individuals, including barangay employees, educators, and student-responders from LNHS. Jose Blair Arciete, the organizer and BDRRMC Focal Person, emphasized that the primary goal was to enhance skills in rope handling, knot tying, application of safety procedures, and the correct utilization of techniques during rescue operations.
Expert Instruction and Techniques Covered
Leading the instruction was Mamerto Banilad Jr., a Certified IRATA Level 2 professional, who served as the speaker and trainer. He imparted critical rope techniques, such as advanced rope handling and knot-tying methods, standard rappelling procedures, and the proper loading and unloading of individuals during rescue scenarios.
