Mawab Municipal Government Intensifies Disaster Preparedness
The Municipal Government of Mawab in Davao de Oro is taking significant steps to reinforce its disaster preparedness framework, aiming for a faster and more synchronized reaction during emergency situations.
New Risk Communication and Standardized Protocols
Under the directive of Mayor Myrill Apit, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is finalizing a comprehensive Risk Communication Plan. This initiative, announced on November 28, 2025, is designed to enhance the dissemination of critical information before, during, and after calamities hit. The plan will establish more transparent and efficient communication channels connecting emergency responders, barangay officials, and the general public, with a special focus on residents in high-risk and remote communities.
Concurrently, the MDRRMO is also updating and standardizing its emergency response protocols. This move is intended to facilitate the quicker deployment of essential resources and personnel when facing natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
Focus on Safety and Reaching Remote Areas
Mayor Apit emphasized that this initiative is a crucial measure for safeguarding both lives and property against potential disasters. She stressed the importance of ensuring that early warning systems and rescue operations are effective enough to reach even the most isolated areas within the municipality.
To support these enhanced plans, the local government is currently conducting an assessment of its existing disaster response equipment. This review will help identify and prepare the additional tools and vehicles necessary for rapid mobilization when every second counts.
"Our priority is the safety of our people," Mayor Apit stated. "We want to be ready and equipped so that we can respond immediately and prevent casualties should a natural disaster occur."
The municipal government expects to roll out these strengthened plans and protocols in the coming months, working in close coordination with all barangays and partner agencies to ensure community-wide resilience.
