Student Volunteers Bring Hope to Flood-Ravaged School

Nearly four weeks after Typhoon Tino battered the Philippines on November 4, 2025, the Biasong Elementary School in Talisay City remained buried under mud and debris. Classrooms stood filled with thick mud, hallways were coated in grime, and the entire school grounds served as a stark reminder of the storm's destructive power.

Clearing Operation Brings Renewal

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, a team of dedicated student volunteers and Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) members from a private school in Cebu City arrived at the devastated campus. Armed with cleaning tools and unwavering determination, they launched a massive cleanup operation to help the community recover from the disaster.

The volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day, scrubbing mud-caked walls, cleaning flood-damaged chairs, and clearing debris from classrooms and stairways. They shoveled out thick layers of mud that had settled across the school grounds, gradually restoring the educational facility to a usable condition.

Visible Damage and Ongoing Challenges

The extent of damage at Biasong Elementary School was severe. Multiple classrooms remained filled with mud, while educational materials including books, papers, and chairs were either destroyed or heavily damaged by the flooding. The school's main entrance and surrounding areas showed clear signs of the typhoon's impact.

Due to the extensive damage, classes remained suspended as the clearing operations continued. Several classrooms were still too damaged to accommodate students, highlighting the long recovery road ahead for the educational institution and the surrounding Barangay Biasong community.

The volunteer effort brought a renewed sense of hope to the barangay, demonstrating that even in the face of significant destruction, community solidarity and volunteerism could help restore what the storm had taken away.
