A morning commute turned into a nightmare on a Bohol highway after a driver fell asleep, causing a serious collision that left four people injured and trapped. The accident occurred on the National Highway in Barangay Tangohay, Dimiao, Bohol.
Details of the Early Morning Crash
The incident took place at 6:25 in the morning on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. According to the Dimiao Municipal Police Station, the vehicle involved was an orange multicab with plate number GBY 6348. It was traveling from the city of Alicia towards Tagbilaran City.
As the multicab approached a curved section of the road in Barangay Tangohay, the driver, identified as 26-year-old Vincent Jumao-as from Barangay Looc, Jagna, Bohol, reportedly fell asleep. This caused him to lose control of the steering wheel.
Rescue and Hospitalization of Victims
The out-of-control vehicle slammed into a concrete fence lining the highway. The impact was so severe that the driver, Jumao-as, became trapped by the steering wheel of the multicab.
Three passengers, all residents of Ubujan District in Tagbilaran City, were also injured in the crash. They were named as Elmer Eghot, 54, Bryan Alizor, 43, and Rex Limbaga, 43.
Alert residents near the crash site quickly called the police station to report the accident and request rescue for the victims. Emergency responders successfully extracted the trapped driver. All four injured individuals were first taken to Valencia Hospital for initial treatment.
Ongoing Investigation and Aftermath
Due to the nature of their injuries, the driver and the three passengers were later transferred to the Governor Gallares Memorial Hospital for further medical care. The condition of the victims is being monitored.
The Dimiao Municipal Police Station continues its investigation into the precise circumstances of the crash. The primary cause has been preliminarily attributed to the driver falling asleep while operating the vehicle, highlighting the dangers of driver fatigue on provincial roads.
This accident serves as a critical reminder for all motorists, especially those driving early in the morning or on long trips, to ensure they are well-rested and alert before getting behind the wheel to prevent similar tragedies.
