Typhoon Tino Leaves Trail of Destruction in Talisay City

Hundreds of homes across Cebu province remain in ruins six days after Typhoon Tino battered the region, with Talisay City experiencing some of the most severe damage. The powerful storm caused the Mananga River to overflow, sweeping away entire communities and leaving families homeless.

Survivors Share Harrowing Experiences

In Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City, numerous houses were completely destroyed when the river burst its banks during the intense rainfall brought by the typhoon. Many residents continue to stay in evacuation centers while waiting for authorities to clear their neighborhoods of debris and mud.

Eugenia Alcurin, a resident of Purok Chicos in Barangay Lawaan, Talisay City, revealed that her home was among those severely affected by the Mananga River overflow. "What we need now are construction materials to rebuild our house," she told SunStar Cebu.

While their barangay has been distributing relief goods including rice, canned food, and noodles, Alcurin noted that many houses in their area were completely washed away by the floodwaters.

Families Sleeping Along Roadsides

Another survivor, Crisostomo Alejado, shared his family's desperate situation in Sitio Isla Verde, Barangay San Isidro. His home and all their possessions were swept away by the flooding, forcing his family to sleep by the roadside.

"We're using pieces of plywood as our sleeping mats," Alejado explained in a separate interview. "We're just waiting for help from the government so we can rebuild."

The disaster, which occurred amid strong rains from Typhoon Tino, has left hundreds of Cebuano families facing an uncertain future as they begin the difficult process of recovery and reconstruction.
