Davao Youth Take Center Stage in National Wellness and Sustainability Summit
In a significant push for youth empowerment, the Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) successfully concluded its "Eat Well, Live Well" Youth Summit 2025 at the Dusit Thani Residences in Davao City. The event, held on November 8, brought together key leaders and over 250 enthusiastic Junior and Senior High School students from Region 11 to address critical issues of nutrition, wellness, and environmental sustainability.
Forging a Path for Future Change-Makers
Now in its third year, the annual summit expanded its reach to Davao after previous runs in Manila and Cebu. This initiative is a core part of APC's commitment to equipping the younger generation with the knowledge and tools to drive positive change in their communities. The summit featured a series of insightful discussions and interactive learning activities designed to make complex topics accessible and engaging for students.
In collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), the event saw participation from a diverse mix of public and private schools. The students were not just passive listeners; they were actively involved in planning collaborative micro-projects. These actionable plans were centered on living out the Eat Well, Live Well philosophy, which includes using Umami to make nutritious food tastier, increasing daily vegetable consumption, and adopting a zero-waste lifestyle.
Leadership Reinforces Commitment to a Healthier Future
The gathering was graced by prominent figures who underscored the importance of the summit's goals. Mr. Koichi Ozaki, APC Group President, set the tone in his opening remarks, stating, "Our mission is to contribute to wellness and help people enjoy better lives in the future. We have been investing in youth development as we hope to see the younger generations become champions of a healthy and sustainable future."
The keynote address, titled "Empowering Youth for Nutritious and Sustainable Futures," was delivered by Dr. Rebonfamil Baguio, DepEd-Davao Assistant Regional Director. He commended the initiative, saying, "This Summit is a testament that a sustainable program is worth supporting... Thank you for constantly reminding us that the well-being of the nation starts with the well-being of its people."
Other distinguished leaders present included Dr. Azucena Milana-Dayanghirang from the National Nutrition Council, Dr. Lilibeth Mirando-Gonzales from the Bureau of Learner Support Services, and representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
A Pledge for Continued Action
The summit culminated in a powerful and heartfelt Ceremonial Pledge, where all 250+ participants vowed to become vocal advocates for healthier lifestyles and greater environmental consciousness in their daily lives. The energy and dedication of the students left a lasting impression on the organizers.
In her closing remarks, Mika Makino, APC Director for Sales, Marketing, and Public Relations, expressed her confidence in the youth, stating, "I am truly impressed by your bright and sharp minds, and I can see that the country’s future is in good hands."
This successful event in Davao marks a significant step for Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation in its global mission to extend healthy life expectancy and reduce its environmental impact by 50 percent by the year 2030.
