ZAMBOANGA. Authorities have installed solar-powered closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations in the towns of Alicia and Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay, as part of efforts to bolster peace and security in the two municipalities. The initiative was announced by police officials on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Project Details
Police Colonel Barnard Danie Dasugo, director of the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO), spearheaded the project. The CCTVs were placed at key sites, including the Guicam Bridge, Dawa-Dawa village in Alicia town, and the municipality of Mabuhay. The Guicam Bridge, stretching approximately 1.21 kilometers, connects the mainland town of Alicia to Olutanga Island, which comprises three towns: Mabuhay, Olutanga, and Talusan.
Objectives and Benefits
Dasugo stated that the installation is part of the ZSPPO's ongoing commitment to strengthen public safety and enhance peace and order initiatives. "The installation of solar-powered CCTVs aims to improve surveillance and monitoring capabilities, where a stable electricity supply may be limited," Dasugo said in a statement. "Through the use of solar-powered technology, the newly installed cameras are expected to assist authorities in crime prevention, incident monitoring, traffic observation, and immediate response coordination."
The project highlights the collaboration between the ZSPPO and local stakeholders in leveraging modern technology to enhance community security and promote a safer environment for the public. Dasugo also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting peace and order programs by promptly reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
