Pampanga VP Urges Worker Safety During Typhoon Uwan

Pampanga Leader's Urgent Appeal for Worker Safety

As Super Typhoon "Uwan" threatened the Philippines over the weekend, Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda made a heartfelt appeal to private sector employers, urging them to prioritize the safety and welfare of their employees. The official emphasized that while the local government cannot mandate work suspensions for private companies, sound judgment is crucial during severe weather events.

A Direct Appeal to Employers

Vice Governor Pineda specifically addressed business owners during his monitoring of the typhoon situation on Saturday, November 9, 2025. "We don't actually have jurisdiction over you, the private sector," Pineda stated, acknowledging the legal boundaries. However, he made a personal plea: "My only request, especially for Sunday, if early dismissal for our people cannot be implemented, is to make sure that if the rain is already heavy, please don't let them leave the establishment to avoid them getting stranded."

The vice governor further stressed the importance of protecting employees, adding, "Let's take care of our employees. Of course, we owe them a great debt because without them, our businesses wouldn't function, so please take care of them." This appeal highlights the critical role workers play in business operations and the moral responsibility employers hold during natural disasters.

Provincial Government's Preparedness Measures

While making his appeal to the private sector, Vice Governor Pineda was simultaneously leading the provincial government's disaster preparedness efforts. On Saturday, he personally inspected heavy equipment and relief packs to ensure the province was ready to provide quick response and aid to Kapampangans potentially affected by the storm and flooding.

The provincial government's proactive approach demonstrates their commitment to community safety amid the typhoon threat. Pineda's dual focus on both public sector preparedness and private sector cooperation shows a comprehensive strategy for dealing with the impacts of Super Typhoon Uwan.
