UAAP Games Suspended as Typhoon Uwan Hits Luzon

UAAP Takes Precautionary Measure as Typhoon Hits Luzon

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) made the decisive move to suspend all its scheduled events on Sunday, November 9, 2025. This action was taken as Typhoon Uwan, internationally named Fung-Wong, continued to batter large portions of the Luzon region with intense rainfall and powerful winds.

Postponed Matches and League Statement

In an official announcement, the league confirmed the postponement of all basketball, men's football, and high school volleyball games set for that day. This precautionary step was implemented to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.

Among the highly anticipated matchups affected were the men's basketball rivalry game between the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and the De La Salle University Green Archers. Also postponed was the contest between the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the same tournament.

The men's football fixtures were not spared, with the games featuring UST versus FEU and La Salle against the University of the Philippines being called off.

The UAAP emphasized its commitment to safety in its statement, saying, "The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, fans, and everyone involved is our top priority." The league strongly advised the public to take all necessary precautions, stay indoors if possible, and ensure the safety of their families during this severe weather event.

Wider Impact and Awaiting New Schedules

At the time of the announcement, Typhoon Uwan was actively causing disruptions across Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The storm's impact led to the cancellation of several other sporting events and prompted local government units to issue advisories for residents to remain indoors.

As of now, the UAAP has not yet revealed the new schedule for the postponed games. Fans and participants are encouraged to monitor the league's official channels for further updates regarding the resumption of events once weather conditions improve.
