AgSurnon Athlete Qualifies for 2028 Olympics

BUTUAN CITY – An AgSurnon athlete has set his sights on the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, scheduled from July 14 to 20, 2028, after breaking a 22-year national record in the marathon. In an exclusive interview with Bombo Radyo Philippines, Sonny Wagdos, a resident of Prosperidad where the 2026 Palarong Pambansa is being held, revealed that on March 1 of this year, he shattered the national record at the Tokyo Marathon in Japan. He clocked a time of 2 hours and 14 minutes for the 42-kilometer race, surpassing the record of his coach, Edwardo Buenavista, who had a finish time of 2 hours and 18 minutes.

Olympic Standard Achieved

Aside from the new record, Wagdos also secured a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand, which reignited his dream of competing in the Olympics. Now that he has achieved the Olympic standard, he must maintain it in future competitions under World Athletics. He also encouraged athletes in the Palaro to continue their training and self-discipline, trust in God, and always listen to their coaches to fulfill their dreams.
