China Rocket Debris May Fall in N. Luzon Waters

The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) has issued a warning that debris from China's Long March 7A rocket is expected to fall within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone and archipelagic waters. According to the agency's advisory, the rocket debris may land in designated drop zones approximately 41 nautical miles (NM) from Burgos, Ilocos Norte; 62 NM from Dalupiri Island, Cagayan; 69 NM from Santa Ana, Cagayan; and 81 NM from Camiguin Norte.

Although the debris is not expected to hit land or residential areas, PhilSA cautioned that it could pose hazards to ships, aircraft, fishing boats, and other vessels traversing these zones. The rocket was launched from Wenchang, Hainan, at around 12:16 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27.

PhilSA urged the public to report any suspected debris to authorities and advised against approaching or retrieving it, as it may contain toxic substances such as rocket fuel.
