Gilas Women Lose First Two Games at 3x3 World Cup

The Philippine women's 3x3 basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas Women, had a challenging start to their campaign in the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup, suffering defeats in their first two matches in Pool C action held in Warsaw, Poland on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Kacey dela Rosa led the team in their narrow 11-14 loss to Latvia, contributing five points and three rebounds. Mikka Cacho also added three points and three boards. The Filipinas remained competitive throughout the contest but could not complete a late rally against the Latvians.

In their second game, Gilas faced a tougher challenge against Germany, falling 10-22. Dela Rosa and Cacho once again led the scoring with four points each. Despite the 0-2 start, the team remains in contention for a knockout phase berth.

The Philippines will next face China and Italy on Wednesday, needing strong performances to advance. The top two teams from each pool automatically qualify for the semifinals, while the third-ranked team enters a play-in round for a chance at the Final Four.

Gilas Women secured their World Cup spot by defeating Singapore in the qualifying tournament last April, marking another milestone for the country's growing 3x3 basketball program.
