A motorcycle rider died instantly, and his passenger was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after being hit by a Ford Raptor that made a sudden U-turn on South Road Properties in Cebu City at around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The deceased rider was identified as Bernel Navares, an adult, while the passenger, Krystal Claire Mondares, was pronounced dead on arrival at Cebu City Medical Center. Their place of residence has yet to be determined.
According to the investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office, the motorcycle and the Ford Raptor, driven by John Tabacon, 23, of Corona del Mar, Barangay Pooc, Talisay City, were traveling in opposite directions.
The motorcycle was heading north when it suddenly made a U-turn and swerved into the lane of the Ford Raptor. The driver of the Ford Raptor said he tried to brake and steer away to avoid the collision, but he still hit the motorcycle due to its proximity.
Due to the force of the impact, the motorcycle and its riders were thrown onto the road and dragged for about 25 meters. Navares died instantly from severe head injuries, while Mondares was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Ford Raptor is now in the custody of the TEU and is being prepared for a case of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide.
