Madison Square Garden (MSG) is the most popular sporting venue in the world, often called the 'Mecca' and 'The World's Most Famous Arena' due to its fame and the vast history that has taken place at the facility.
It was 1999 when MSG last hosted an NBA Finals. After 27 years, the biggest stage of the NBA returns to MSG, and the same team is once again facing the New York Knicks. In 1999, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Knicks in the NBA Finals, which took place inside MSG during Game 5 of their championship series.
Now, the NBA Finals return to Madison Square Garden, again featuring the Knicks and the Spurs. Games 3 and 4 will be played at MSG, and if a Game 6 is needed, it will also be held at the venue.
Historic Moments at MSG
Among the notable events at MSG is the 'Double Nickel' game in 1995, where legendary Michael Jordan scored 55 points while wearing the No. 45 jersey in his fifth game after returning from retirement.
Kobe Bryant also delivered an impressive performance at MSG. In February 2009, he exploded for 61 points to defeat the Knicks. MSG is also famous as the home court of the Knicks and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. It has hosted historic boxing matches featuring Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and other famous boxers.
Concerts and Events
In music, MSG has hosted concerts by Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, and The Rolling Stones. The venue has also been the site of political conventions and public events.
