President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has allocated an additional ₱3 billion fund to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to ensure the safe repatriation and livelihood of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
Fund Allocation and Usage
According to Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, the fund will cover the entire assistance process, including pre-departure aid, airfare, and reintegration programs for returning Filipinos. The directive from the President is to provide support to OFWs until they reach their home provinces.
Repatriation Numbers
Based on the latest report, 10,446 Filipinos have been safely repatriated via DMW humanitarian flights, including those with medical conditions who were assisted by medical personnel on board.
Support Upon Return
Upon arrival in the Philippines, OFWs receive financial assistance, psychosocial counseling, medical assessment, and job placement guidance. For livelihood, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provides up to ₱20,000 in capital for those who wish to start a business.
Job Fairs and Education Opportunities
The DMW has conducted 15 job fairs nationwide. Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) has streamlined the hiring process for returning OFWs who are licensed teachers, allowing them to teach in public schools.
