PH, US Complete 4th Joint Maritime Exercise in West Philippine Sea

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) have successfully concluded their Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) in the West Philippine Sea, held from June 14 to June 19, 2026. This marks the fourth joint maritime exercise between the two nations this year.

Participating Assets and Drills

Over six days, the Philippines deployed naval and coast guard vessels including BRP Diego Silang, BRP Melchora Aquino, and BRP Sindangan, along with FA-50 fighter aircraft and Sokol helicopters. The United States contributed ships such as USCGC Charles Moulthrope and USCGC Emlen Tunnell, a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, and personnel from the 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment. Drills included Search and Rescue (SAR), Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS), Communication Exercises (COMMEX), Division Tactics, and Joint Fires Rehearsal.

Commitment to Regional Security

According to the AFP, the success of this activity demonstrates the continued commitment of both countries to strengthening maritime security cooperation and maintaining order and the rule of law in the Indo-Pacific region. The exercises aim to enhance interoperability and readiness between the two allied forces.
