Filipinos in Ukraine Safe After New Russian Attacks

The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw has reported that all Filipinos in Ukraine are safe and accounted for following a new wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv that killed four people and injured approximately 100 others.

Embassy Monitoring

Since last weekend, the embassy has been continuously monitoring the situation of the small Filipino communities in Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine. The attacks, which began on the night of Saturday, May 23, involved drones and hypersonic Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

Destruction in Kyiv

The strikes destroyed dozens of homes, schools, markets, and a museum in Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the country's air defense was unable to intercept all ballistic missiles, most of which were deliberately aimed at the capital.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attacks were retaliation for alleged Ukrainian bombings of civilian facilities inside Russia, a claim that Ukraine has strongly denied.
