Zamboanga Showcases 21 Yakan-Weave Designs in Hilos de Innovation
Zamboanga's Hilos de Innovation Exhibit Launches

The Department of Trade and Industry in Zamboanga City has officially opened a special pre-judging design exhibit, marking a significant phase of the Hilos de Innovation Project.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modern Design

This initiative, which falls under the broader Malikhaing Pinoy Program and is supported by the Competitiveness and Innovation Group, is designed to boost the creative skills of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), designers, and artisans. The project specifically focuses on the wearables and homestyle sectors, aiming to advance the city's creative economy and foster a greater sense of cultural pride.

The general public is invited to view the exhibit at the Ground Level Activity Area of SM City Mindpro. It will be open for viewing from Thursday, November 20, until Friday, November 21, offering mall visitors a unique chance to witness the artistry shaping Zamboanga's creative future.

Spotlight on Collaborative Artistry

The showcase is a vibrant display of 21 original design creations, the result of a powerful collaboration between seven local designers and masterful Yakan weavers. Each designer contributed three ready-to-wear design sets that artfully merge traditional Yakan handwoven textiles with contemporary fashion and product design principles.

These pieces serve as a celebration of the region's rich cultural heritage while boldly championing innovation, demonstrating how age-old traditions can inspire fresh and modern expression.

Expressing strong support for the project, SM City Mindpro mall manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez stated, "We are honored to host this remarkable exhibit that not only spotlights the artistry of our local designers and Yakan weavers but also reinforces SM's commitment to uplifting cultural creativity in Zamboanga. By opening our space to initiatives like this, we hope to inspire the community and help elevate local talent onto a bigger stage."

An Invitation to the Community

The DTI-Zamboanga City Office and SM are jointly encouraging the public, partners, and all design enthusiasts to explore this meaningful collaboration. Visitors are welcome to witness firsthand the rich tapestry of culture, creativity, and innovation on display at SM City Mindpro, supporting local talent and the growing creative economy of Zamboanga.
