Officials in Angeles City have united to amplify the call for ending violence against women (VAW), marking a significant step in the city's commitment to women's safety and rights.
Official Launch and Government Backing
During a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, November 24, at the Angeles City Hall, Mayor Jon Lazatin, alongside other city leaders, officially inaugurated the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW. The event, spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), is a national observance mandated by Republic Act 10398, which highlights the government's duty to protect the rights of women and girls.
The local government expressed its full support for programs designed to prevent violence, assist survivors, and promote gender-sensitive practices across all its offices. This collective effort underscores a shared responsibility to create a safer environment for women.
Strengthening Systems and Community Responsibility
A comprehensive orientation on the campaign's objectives and major activities was delivered by the CSWDO during the ceremony. The briefing emphasized critical areas for improvement.
Enhancing reporting mechanisms and updating the functionality of VAW Desks were identified as top priorities. The city is also committed to ensuring that frontline personnel are fully equipped to handle cases with the necessary competence, empathy, and confidentiality.
City Hall employees were reminded that fostering a respectful, safe, and protective environment for women is a duty that extends across all sectors of the local government and the wider community.
Leadership Voices and a Call to Action
Councilor Maricel G. Morales reinforced the local government's pledge to uphold the dignity and safety of women and girls. She stressed that ending violence against women and children requires cooperation among government agencies, communities, and individuals.
Morales encouraged all employees to actively participate in the various activities scheduled throughout the 18-day campaign period.
Echoing this sentiment, Mayor Jon Lazatin confirmed that the city government is expanding its programs dedicated to promoting women's welfare. These initiatives align with national directives to strengthen prevention, protection, and support services for women across Angeles City.
