The Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), stationed at Camp General Macario B. Peralta Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz, has reiterated its full support for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac) following the dismissal of a terrorism financing case against members of the Community Empowerment Resource Network Inc. (Cernet).
Court Dismissal on Procedural Grounds
The Regional Trial Court dismissed the case based on procedural grounds. The 3ID emphasized that this dismissal does not equate to a declaration of innocence, aligning with the position of the NTF-Elcac's Legal Cooperation Cluster.
The division stressed that combating terrorism financing remains a critical component of national security. In a statement, the 3ID said, "We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law while supporting all lawful efforts of the NTF-Elcac and other government agencies in combating terrorism and its enablers."
Call for Vigilance
The 3ID urged the public to remain vigilant and united against groups and individuals who may exploit legal technicalities to undermine peace and stability. The division also called on local government units and agencies to exercise due diligence when partnering with organizations or entities receiving government support.
"It is essential to ensure that government resources, programs, and community initiatives are not exploited or infiltrated by organizations that may directly or indirectly engage in activities that threaten peace, security, and development in our communities," the statement added.
Continued Coordination
The 3ID affirmed it will continue to coordinate closely with law enforcement and judicial institutions while carrying out its mandate professionally and impartially, in accordance with the Philippine Constitution and laws. The division oversees military operations in Western and Central Visayas, including the Negros Island Region, as part of the government's efforts to address insurgency and maintain internal security.
