Son Kills Father Over Coconut Money in Badian

A tragic incident occurred in Badian town, Cebu, where an 82-year-old farmer died after being beaten with a piece of wood by his own son over a dispute on coconut sales proceeds. The incident happened on Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, in Purok Dao, Barangay Basak, Badian.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The victim was identified as Nemecio Benemerito Libron, a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Taytay in the same town. He died instantly due to severe head injuries. The suspect, Climaco Espanol Libron, 43, a tricycle driver and ex-convict, was immediately arrested by the police. He is currently detained at the Badian Police Station, facing a parricide charge.

Police Investigation

According to Police Senior Master Sergeant Jupiter Elarcosa, investigator of the Badian Police Station, the victim was having his coconut trees harvested when his son confronted him. A witness, the coconut harvester, reported seeing the suspect arguing with his father. The witness saw the suspect pulling his father while he continued harvesting. When the harvester came down, the victim was gone, and the suspect was walking away.

The witness searched for the victim and was shocked to find him lying under banana plants, already dead with blood coming from his head. He immediately informed neighbors and the police.

Suspect Apprehended

PSMSG Elarcosa said the suspect was arrested inside his house about an hour later, at 11:30 a.m. When arrested, he was restless. "He confessed to the crime because he was angry with his father. He said he did not get a share of the income from the coconuts," Elarcosa added.

The suspect admitted that he could no longer control his anger because his father would always have his coconuts harvested quietly and never gave him a share, even though he also had his own coconut plants in the area. When he learned what his father was doing, he immediately followed him to the mountain, where he hit him three times on the head with a piece of wood.

Suspect's Background

Elarcosa confirmed that the suspect had been previously imprisoned for shooting a neighbor. There is also information that he is a user of illegal drugs in their area.
