Cebu Media Women's Forum to Challenge Traditional Gender Roles Based on SWS Survey
In celebration of International Women’s Month 2026, STET–Women in Cebu Media is organizing a significant forum titled “Insights from SWS survey: Challenging traditional narratives on women’s roles.” This event aims to address and reshape public perceptions highlighted by recent survey data.
Event Details and Survey Background
The forum is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Nustar Resort and Casino in the South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City. It responds directly to a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, which revealed that 83 percent of Filipinos still believe a woman’s primary role is to look after the home and family. This statistic underscores persistent traditional views that the forum seeks to challenge.
Keynote Speaker and Panel Discussion
Cebu Municipal Trial Court Judge Haide Acuña will serve as the keynote speaker, offering her insights on the survey findings. Acuña is a multifaceted professional, known as a trial judge, wife, mother, former journalist, and marathon runner. Her diverse background positions her uniquely to discuss the complexities of women’s roles in society.
The event will also feature a panel of experts from various sectors, led by Michelle P. So, representing women in newsrooms and STET. This panel will delve into the need to reshape public perceptions and amplify women’s voices across different fields.
Organizational Support and Mission
The forum is organized in partnership with Nustar Resort and Casino, Fili Hotel, and Nickel Asia, highlighting broad community and corporate support for gender equality initiatives. STET–Women in Cebu Media is an organization of active and retired women journalists dedicated to empowering and mentoring younger journalists while advocating for positive change in the media landscape.
