Drunk Uncle Allegedly Stabs 10-Year-Old Nephew in Mandaue City Home Dispute
A shocking incident of family violence unfolded in Mandaue City on the morning of March 26, 2026, when a 41-year-old man, identified only by the alias Chester, allegedly stabbed his 10-year-old nephew, Jaymark Genggani, with a screwdriver. The attack occurred inside their residence on C. Ouano Street in Barangay Looc, following a heated argument among relatives.
Details of the Altercation and Police Response
According to Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) spokesperson Mercy Villaro-Kantuna, the suspect arrived at the home intoxicated after drinking in Barangay Cambaro. A dispute erupted over the arrangement of beds in the house, escalating into a confrontation involving family members. Villaro-Kantuna stated, "There was chaos inside the house involving cousins. The suspect was drunk, and the argument intensified." The victim, who had just woken up due to the noise, became the target of the suspect's rage.
Police from Station 5 responded swiftly after the incident was reported at approximately 5:30 a.m., arriving within 20 minutes. Authorities recovered a six-inch screwdriver believed to be the weapon used in the assault. A 15-year-old relative witnessed the event, providing crucial testimony.
Medical Treatment and Legal Proceedings
The victim was quickly taken to Mandaue City District Hospital by his grandmother. Medical officials confirmed that the child is now in stable condition and has been discharged. However, follow-up checkups and laboratory results are scheduled to ensure full recovery. Meanwhile, the suspect was apprehended by responding officers after he surrendered himself. He is currently in police custody, with charges being prepared under Republic Act 7610, the Child Abuse Law, which carries severe penalties for offenses against minors.
